Co-ordinate Geometry
Coordinate geometry uses a coordinate system to describe points, lines, and shapes algebraically, connecting algebra and geometry.
Core concept
The Cartesian coordinate system uses two perpendicular axes (x and y) to locate points using ordered pairs (x, y).
How it works
The distance formula, derived from the Pythagorean theorem, calculates the distance between two points: d=√[(x₂-x₁)²+(y₂-y₁)²].
Why it matters
The midpoint formula finds the exact middle point between two coordinates: ((x₁+x₂)/2, (y₁+y₂)/2).
Key detail
Coordinate geometry allows us to solve geometric problems, like finding distances and midpoints, using algebraic methods.
