SSCClass 10 (SSC)Science and Technology (विज्ञान आणि तंत्रज्ञान)Ch 8 · Topic 1
Metallurgy
Metallurgy is the science and technology of extracting metals from ores and processing them for various industrial and everyday applications
Core concept
Ores are naturally occurring minerals from which metals can be economically extracted, requiring concentration to remove impurities (gangue).
How it works
Extraction methods vary by metal reactivity - highly reactive metals use electrolysis, while less reactive metals use reduction with carbon.
Why it matters
Refining processes, like electrolytic refining, purify extracted metals to remove remaining impurities for high-quality applications.
Key detail
Metallurgy is essential for producing metals used in construction, transportation, electronics, and countless other industrial applications.
